I would like to thank the editorial team at HYPEBEAST for having me do a shoot for another issue of their print magazine. I had a great time photographing Ben and Bobby Hundreds and The Hundreds headquarters. It was really great to hear their story about how they built their empire; a lot of food for thought. Whatever it is that you aspire to achieve, it starts with a vision.
Here are a few photos from AGENDA Trade Show in Long Beach that I took for HYPEBEAST. I enjoy seeing what the established and up and coming brands have to offer the industry. The shoes, the clothes and even the waffles.
Tijuana > Zacapu > Patzcuaro > Janitzio
I had the honor of photographing big wave surfer Maya Gabeira for HYPEBEAST magazine's The Exploration Issue. It was a great opportunity to work for a lifestyle brand and magazine that I have looked up to since I started taking pictures. Everything from the brands they feature to the direction of their photography and aesthetics all inspire me. I took a few photos of the magazine for you to check out!
I had the pleasure of working with model and entrepreneur Nikki Blades . She is the founder of her own food blog @NikkiStreetEats . Nikki is currently working on a 2015/2016 calendar that features photos she took with some very talented photographers. Nikki is a Hawaii native and plans to relocate to LA to pursue her modeling career and grow her business. Featured are food trucks and their dish they are known for. Models and food? Sounds like a good mix to me. I had a chance to get a sneak peak of the calendar before she puts them up for pre-sale on her website www.NikkiBlades.com. Let's just say that I started craving a burger after I saw all the pics lol! I love burgers. I love the concept and themes that she used for each month. You'll just have to see the calendar for yourself or the exclusive photos that she'll be posting on her Instagram. Don't forget to follow her on Instagram!
After our photo shoot, the team and I asked if we could take her out to dinner. She hadn't been to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles before. Being a Long Beach native, I had to suggest Roscoe's. Chicken, waffles and Nikki Blades.........enjoy!
Nikki couldn't quite finish her meal so she had to take the rest to go. You gotta give her props for putting a good sized dent on that plate. If you haven't been to Roscoe's yet, I suggest you make that a priority very soon. Word of advice, COME HUNGRY.
Artists Nick Flatt and Paul Virchow, aka "Punkone", recently completed this large mural in Berlin of a photo I took of Madzilla. The mural is located at Teufelsberg Station, a former NSA listening station used by the Allied Forces to spy on Germans during the Cold War. The mural is titled, "More More War" and represents how the forces of Western Imperialism are propelled by our conspicuous consumption and material obsessions. The photos that I'm sharing with you are courtesy of Nick Flatt himself. Maybe this could be a good excuse to take a trip to Germany.
Last year, Nick and I collaborated on this photo concept with my good friend Madzilla. He explained to me his vision and I ran with it. My goal was to give off a really "raw" feel. I'm glad that our photo series has been able to make his work come to life. Seeing one of the images from our shoot on a wall across the world was a pleasant surprise.
Special thanks to Nick and Paul for the photos. I'll have to print one of these out for my studio (Maybe the one where you guys are trying to stay warm lol) Shout out to Alex @ DAX Gallery in Costa Mesa, CA for producing the photoshoot!
With Sydney and Johana, it's double the fun.
Sydney hit me up to shoot 2 weeks ago and surely enough, you know I was ready! We've worked together a few times before and we always shoot rad sh!t. Sydney is probably one of the most versatile models I have worked with in the industry. When it comes to my model test shoots, I love diving in and just shooting random concepts (or lack there of). With Sydney's down to earth attitude and my short attention span, let's just say these photos are nothing but perfect in my eyes. Don't mind the messy studio........
